Welcome to Nighstand!

I like to think I was one of the original bloggers.

Back in the day. We’re talking Web 2.0. Blogger, baby.

I wasn’t famous. But I had my people. A small but loyal group of readers who showed up because they appreciated my perspective, random observations, and the way I looked at the world. I had a blog roll (remember those?) that stretched down the side of my homepage for what felt like miles. Other bloggers linked back. Conversations happened in my comment sections. And somewhere along the way, I even developed a fun little alter ego that people started calling me offline.

It was a simpler kind of internet. A little messy. A little more personal. And honestly? It was fun. Then life changed.

I became a mom, and suddenly time became something I had to fight for. The late nights spent writing disappeared. The quiet moments to think became rare. I found myself wearing more hats than I had a head to put them on. And when I did write, it was usually at the end of a long day, when my creativity was running on fumes.

So I stepped away.

A few years ago, I tried again. I started a new blog and returned to some of the things I loved most: books, music, movies, and storytelling. On paper, it made sense. These were the things that inspired me.

But something was missing. I was covering my passions, but I was disconnected from the journey of my own stories and that of being an author. So, once again, I pressed pause.

But now...I’m back.

After years of focusing on life, family, work, writing, and publishing, I’m returning to blogging as a way to share my journey as a writer.

I share on Threads, Instagram, and through the occasional newsletter, but my thoughts, stories, and creative journey are often scattered across different corners of the internet instead of living together in one place. While social spaces are wonderful for connecting and sharing, I want something that is homed with me.

That is what Nightstand represents.

It is the one place in my home where everything that inspires me collects. My physical TBR pile. Notebooks filled with story ideas. Photos that hold pieces of my heart. My phone, which somehow contains my entire life. Travel logs and mementos. Little fragments of inspiration that eventually become something more.

Simply put, it’s where my thoughts live, physically, and that is what I want this space to be.  Not a place to promote books or chase algorithms but a place to share the stories behind the stories—the inspiration, writing process, publishing journey, and all the messy magic that comes with creating.

So, welcome to Nightstand.

I hope you’ll follow along.

xo,

DM
